Enzyme expression in the liver curbs weight gain in mice

Over-expression of the FBPase enzyme in the liver of mice led to lower food consumption and a 50% reduction in body fat compared with mice without the extra enzyme, according to a study in Diabetes. The results suggest that the liver may play a role in weight gain and should serve as a target to address obesity.
