Hollande tops Sarkozy in first round of French elections

Socialist Party candidate Francois Hollande emerged from the first round of France's presidential elections with a slender lead over incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy. The two will face each other again in the second round May 6. The surprise of the day was the strong third-place finish of far-right candidate Marine Le Pen, who campaigned on an anti-immigration, anti-Islam platform.
