How department stores can play to their strengths

Selfridge's London flagship has revamped its fashion departments to better reflect each designer's brand and beefed up its collections of ready-to-wear apparel from brands including Lanvin, Givenchy and Alexander McQueen. The changes are part of a larger effort to keep the department store relevant to consumers who have more options than ever before, says creative director Alannah Weston.
