Parents' dietary knowledge may not help curb obesity

A study of 150 families of preschoolers revealed about 40% of parents in both healthy and overweight groups agreed that buying and preparing unhealthy food is the key driver of early weight gain in children, while only 7% of parents in the healthy-weight group and 8% in the overweight group cited lack of exercise as a top cause. Pediatricians should offer parents specific and tailored guidance to put their knowledge about diet choices into practice, researchers reported in Clinical Pediatrics.
