Virginia aims to install first offshore wind turbine in the U.S.

Virginia is working become the first state to deploy a working offshore wind turbine, observers said. Although the state still has to receive clearance from the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, it could build a 479-foot turbine in the waters off the state's eastern coast by late 2013, observers said. Other states vying to launch the first offshore wind turbine in the U.S. are Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Texas.
