What the FTC's new privacy report means for small businesses

A recent Federal Trade Commission report on consumer privacy doesn't create new rules for company conduct, but it does provide recommendations for future privacy laws, Kevin Casey writes. Small businesses that don't collect sensitive data might be exempt from the FTC's recommendations, and other companies might be able to rely on common sense. Tell customers about what information you are gathering, and let them know before changing your privacy policies, Casey writes.
