App stores rake in $2.2 billion in first quarter as Google gains

Combined application stores' revenue soared to $2.2 billion in the first quarter, with Apple's App Store accounting for $1.48 billion, Canalys says. Revenue from Google Play trailed Apple considerably but grew from 10% of Apple's share a year ago to 38.5% this quarter, according to App Annie.
