Bus makers haven't been standing still, with steady advancements being made in safety, fuel economy and manufacturing costs, writes Eric Butterman. Automatic braking systems are now common, and school buses have rollover protection. Meanwhile, manufacturers are aiming for double-digit fuel economy and offering alternative fuel options, such as compressed natural gas.
