Changing consumer behavior creates new challenges for carriers

New data show that mobile subscribers are spending less time talking on the phone and more time e-mailing and texting each other instead. According to a survey by PriceWaterhouseCoopers, average monthly data usage grew by more than 100 MB year-over-year last June while subscribers spent less time having actual phone conversations. Analysts say the trend is forcing carriers to get creative with fee schedules that once favored data use as they confront declining voice revenues.
