IEA: Smart grid investment should be higher

Worldwide investment in advanced metering infrastructure, distribution automation and smart grid applications reached $13.9 billion in 2012, compared with $3.4 billion four years earlier, but an increased level of investment is needed if 2020 implementation targets are to be met, the International Energy Agency asserts. It estimates a cumulative total of smart grid investment in the range of $594 billion to $738 billion is required in seven years.
