Recent research shows grouping students by ability -- a sometimes controversial practice -- is re-emerging in U.S. schools. Teachers at a Utah elementary school use ability grouping, but school administrators say it looks different than it did in the past. Some hallmarks of the school's system include fluid movement between groups and access to enrichment activities and extra tutoring. "Our teachers have to be cognizant of almost daily performance of a student so they can adjust as needed," principal Eric Holmes said.
