Commentary: Microsoft determined not to give in to Google

Where once it was Microsoft's Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer vowing not to repeat the mistakes of traditional IBM, it's now Ballmer who sounds decidedly old school in his frequent critiques of Web 2.0 rival Google, according to Brent Schlender, Fortune editor at large. "Microsoft gave those [IBM] folks fits, just as Google's equally cocky band of upstarts baffles Microsoft," he writes.
