Editorial: Better tracking may reduce truancy rate

Some 13% of Marion County, Ind., students -- roughly 16,000 children -- were absent without excuses 10 or more days during the 2005-06 school year. With a strong correlation between truancy and crime, schools need to do more to track attendance problems, the Indianapolis Star editorial board said.
