Analysis: Crisis might spur Hong Kong to tighten rules

A global push to enhance regulation of the financial system might push Hong Kong to increase the enforcement powers of its market regulator. The Securities and Futures Commission needs such authority for Hong Kong to compete with regional financial centers, such as Singapore, market observers said. However, if the regulatory approach becomes too heavy-handed, it might spook some investors and companies.
