Boeing 787 poised to see light of day

Boeing Co. is days away from rolling the 787 Dreamliner out of its hangar and onto the pavement at Paine Field near Seattle. "In the coming days, airplane number one will move out of the factory to the flight line," CEO Jim McNerney told analysts during an earnings call. "There, it will be fueled and its engines operated prior to doing a final systems check and the high-speed taxi test that lead to first flight." After a net loss of 24 orders this year, Boeing's order book for the 787 stands at 886. McNerney said more cancellations are inevitable in the current economy, though he expects them to be "modest."
