Fetal ultrasound less accurate for obese, diabetic women

Ultrasound screenings to find fetal abnormalities may not be as accurate for women who are overweight or obese or who have diabetes prior to becoming pregnant, a U.S. study of 12,200 ultrasounds found. For obese women, test accuracy dropped by 20% compared to normal-weight women, and for diabetic women, the screen only had a 38% success rate in spotting fetal abnormalities.
