Public-works projects boost March construction starts, economist says

A recent McGraw-Hill Construction report found March new construction starts rose 5%, writes AGC Chief Economist Ken Simonson. Stronger demand for public works construction boosted the starts, Simonson writes. However, he also notes that total starts declined 40% for the first quarter of this year. Meanwhile, new home construction and industrial production of construction supplies declined in March, Simonson writes.
