VA: 3 patients involved in endoscopy probe found positive for HIV

The Department of Veterans Affairs confirmed that three out of more than 10,000 patients who were exposed to unsterilized endoscopy equipment at its clinics have tested positive for HIV during initial tests. Six other patients tested positive for the hepatitis B virus and 19 for hepatitis C. The agency, however, said it cannot determine whether these cases were caused by improper sterilization procedures.
