FCC aims to broaden set-top entrants, online video

The FCC on Wednesday formally began the process of trying to simplify how consumers access multichannel and online video services through set-top boxes. Chairman Julius Genachowski said subscribers were tired of changing hardware whenever they switched service providers. "We think the FCC wants to lay the groundwork for over-the-top video to potentially impose some competitive pressure on pay-TV providers in the future," said Concept Capital analyst Paul Gallant.
