Florida Senate votes unanimously to strengthen horse-slaughter laws

The Florida Senate approved a bill that would stiffen fines and make the slaughter of horses and the sale or purchase of horse meat a felony. The animal-protection measure was a priority for senators from South Florida, where the slaughtered bodies of 22 pet horses were recently discovered.
