GE prepares to build gearless wind turbine to compete with Siemens

General Electric plans to roll out a four-megawatt gearless wind turbine to be used offshore in 2012, with an intent to challenge Siemens. Mete Maltepe, GE's head of global sales for wind energy, said the company is using technology garnered from its acquisition of a unit of Morphic Technologies to challenge Siemens and Vestas Wind Systems.
