University of Oklahoma unveils green roof

The University of Oklahoma unveiled a green roof on its research campus building that will have plants and grasses planted in layers of clay, sand and organic material that have one-third the weight of regular soil. The roof, with 160 trays measuring a combined 1,280 square feet, was introduced by the National Weather Center to celebrate Earth Day. One of the goals of the roof is to reduce cooling costs for the university.
