Economists: Spending spurred economy in Q1

Consumer spending helped the health of the American economy in the first quarter, coming after flat spending in the previous three months, according to economists. The gross domestic product rose at an annualized 2.5% in the quarter, according to a survey of economists. The Commerce Department is expected to release its report on the economy April 27.
