Cookbook details Portland's rise to culinary fame

Food writer Karen Brooks' new book, "The Mighty Gastropolis: Portland," highlights Portland's journey from an obscure city full of indie music and creative food to a revolutionary dining spot that is influencing chefs around the world. "The idea was never to write a conventional 'cookbook,'" Brooks said. "Through a series of profiles, we wanted to plunge our readers right into the mad hearts and experimenting palates of these renegades and reluctant heroes, to better understand their mindsets and models. And, of course, to taste their food."
