Philly ordinance would mandate gender neutral restrooms

Philadelphia City Councilman Jim Kenney has introduced legislation that would require new or renovated city-owned buildings to include gender neutral restrooms, a proposal he said would alleviate discrimination against transgender individuals. "We're talking about people who want to be respected, who want their personal identification to be respected and just want to blend in," said openly gay state Rep. Brian Sims, who helped craft the legislation. The bill also includes new tax credits for private businesses that include transgender health in their health insurance coverage.
