Study identifies wasteful spending on drugs

A study by Express Scripts found the U.S. wasted more than $418 billion last year on treatments that offered no extra clinical benefit, including the use of expensive prescription drugs and pharmacies despite the availability of equivalent or superior alternatives. Another source of wasteful spending was nonadherence to drug regimens.
