U.S. middle class loses spot as world's most affluent, analysis shows

The American middle class has lost ground relative to the middle classes in other countries, according to an analysis by The New York Times. Members of Canada's middle class now appear to earn more on an after-tax basis than their counterparts in the U.S. "The idea that the median American has so much more income than the middle class in all other parts of the world is not true these days," Harvard University economist Lawrence Katz said.
