Costco wins lawsuit over wine distribution

A U.S. District Court judge sided with Costco Wholesale in its fight over Washington state's wine and liquor distribution laws, finding that the state's interest in controlling alcohol consumption does not trump federal law. "If the state desires to promote temperance by artificially increasing beer and wine prices, the state could readily achieve that goal in a manner that does not run afoul of the Sherman Act," the judge wrote.
