Food despair drives Haitians from homeland

Desperation associated with persistent hunger and rising food prices is driving increasing numbers of Haitians to attempt dangerous, illegal water crossings to the U.S. in the hopes of achieving some food security. Haitian authorities say they are seeing more repatriated boat people each week than they used to see in a month.
