Coast Guard requests proposals for first tidal-power project

The U.S. Coast Guard plans to harness tidal power off the coast of Maine to power a station in Eastport. The Coast Guard called for proposals on the $100,000 tidal turbine project, which would be the first tidal project commissioned by the agency. "Tidal power is very predictable; it comes in twice a day," said Captain Jim McPherson of the Coast Guard. "We can time it to the minute."
