Strategic planning sessions can help a business in trouble find its footing again, writes Steve Tobak, but only if the meetings are set up for success from the beginning. Start off by clearly defining goals, problems and ground rules for the meetings, Tobak suggests. One of the most important rules: Keep an open mind. "Executives get too close to and emotionally wrapped up in their groups, responsibilities, programs, and products. The team has to get beyond all the subjectivity to achieve open and honest perspective. Everything's on the table."
