Low-dose MBI is comparable to mammography for dense breasts

A study presented at SNM's Breast Cancer Imaging: State of the Art 2011 meeting in Bethesda, Md., found that redesigning breast-specific collimators and improving other technology that are part of molecular breast imaging can allow for MBI using a 4-millicurie dose. The lower dose provided results comparable to a digital mammography, the researchers said. The finding suggests that low-dose MBI can serve as an additional test or a possible alternative to mammography in women with dense breasts, according to the study.
