Chemical companies seek to design packaging for Asian markets

Dow Chemical and other producers are adapting to Asian consumers' preferences on plastics packaging. "We don't want to go into the lab and produce the next generation of super-molecules. We may overengineer and the resulting materials may not suit the market. We're trying instead to design based on what customers need," said Peter Wong of Dow Chemical's performance-plastics regional unit.
