Overweight, obese children are viewed negatively by peers

Researchers asked 1,139 first-graders to rate how much they liked playing with their classmates and found that both obese and overweight children were more disliked than healthy-weight peers. Meanwhile, teacher ratings showed that obese children were more disliked than both overweight and healthy-weight children. The study was presented at an Experimental Biology meeting.
