Sustainability high priority for golf superintendents

Golf course managers aren't only responsible for a beautiful course that's enjoyable to play, they're responsible for making sure the elements in the course -- the turf, the irrigation system, the natural vegetation -- are used in an environmentally friendly fashion. "(The superintendent's) focus is on the triple bottom line of people (residents/communities/golfers), planet (environment) and profit (business). If any of those elements are not in alignment, then the property is not sustainable," says Greg Lyman, of Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.
