Italian president taps politician to form government

Italian President Giorgio Napolitano has assigned Enrico Letta, who could become the next premier, to form a government and break two months of political deadlock since an inconclusive election. Letta says he will start meeting with political leaders immediately. He could seek a vote of confidence from Parliament by the end of this week, if he concludes he has enough political support.
