CMS to launch dementia care pilot project

The CMS said surveyors will begin a pilot program this summer studying dementia care and Minimum Data Set coding at long-term care facilities, with a focus on antipsychotic prescribing. The survey is being developed but it also could consider issues such as pain management and caregiver stress. A dementia care expert could join surveyors in site visits during the pilot.
