Corticosteroid shots in the spine carry serious risks, FDA warns

Epidural injections of corticosteroids that are commonly administered to treat back or neck pain can cause vision loss, paralysis, stroke and death in rare cases, the FDA said. The agency ordered that warnings be placed on labels and urged patients to discuss the risks and benefits of injectable corticosteroids with providers.
