Expert: Producers need more capital, more robust drilling to sell shale oil lands

Private equity-backed firms should have more capital and stronger drilling programs to improve saleability of their oil lands as purchasers have grown more doubtful of shale reserves, said Michael McMahon, founding partner and managing director of private equity firm Pine Brook. "Many companies already have a significant amount of drilling inventory. You have to be capitalized and organized to prove up those locations," he said.
