The best way to position yourself for an internal promotion is to be "absolutely amazing" in your current job and then go straight to the hiring manager once something becomes available, Kris Dunn writes. "Don't let your current manager do this bidding for you. They don't have your promotional interests in mind. They'd like to keep you," he writes.
