A new law that changes Virginia's Standards of Learning assessment program, but provides no funds for the transition, was criticized this week by the Virginia Board of Education. The board has until July to create guidelines for districts to implement alternative assessments next year. A budget bill that would have provided $2.9 million for the cost of eliminating some assessments and developing new ones failed to pass the legislature.
