Signs point to better year for UK's retailers

UK retail sales rose 0.1% in March from the month before, according to Office for National Statistics, beating a forecast that called for a 0.4% decline. The news, and the results of a Confederation of Business Industry survey showing retail sales rose in April for a fifth consecutive month, buoyed hopes that 2014 is turning out to be a stronger year for Britain's retailers.
