Cause of California sinkhole puzzles engineers

Engineers are searching for the cause of a 40-by-60-foot sinkhole that opened last week in Richmond, Calif. A corrugated steel culvert pipe may have led to the collapse, which was the first sinkhole reported in the city. Another possible culprit? Aging infrastructure beneath the streets.
