School liaisons receive pink slips amid budget crunch in Cleveland

More than 100 school liaisons in Cleveland received layoff notices last week as part of the district's efforts to offset a $53 million budget shortage. Some say the liaisons, who help promote parental involvement at schools and help families deal with situations outside of school that distract students or cause them to be absent, are a valuable asset to the schools and that their loss will be felt by students and educators.
