Democrats are set to fight for tax increases for wealthy Americans

Democrats appear increasingly minded to stake out a position calling for higher taxes on rich Americans to reduce the deficit. There's still debate over whether to push for higher taxes on all those who earn more than $250,000, or just on those who earn $1 million or more; either way, though, party leaders appear to believe that raising taxes could be a winning electoral strategy. "Lawmakers in the party are more than happy, messaging-wise, to set themselves up as champions of programs like Medicare and Medicaid, while casting Republicans as defenders of millionaires and billionaires," Bernie Becker writes.
