Legislation to shut Fannie and Freddie gets bogged down

Congressional leaders can't get enough votes to shut down Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Democratic and Republican officials said. Legislation to close the U.S. mortgage-finance companies is bogged down even in the Republican-controlled House, where leaders want to reduce the government's size. "There's no consensus on it," said House Financial Services Committee Chairman Spencer Bachus, R-Ala.
