Analysis: Cameras can compete with smartphones

Although some pundits predict that cameras will be made obsolete by smartphones, and Eastman Kodak is in Chapter 11, Japanese camera manufacturers report that they shipped almost three times as many cameras in January as they did in the same month of 2003, this analysis notes. The quality of images produced with cameras and the advent of mirrorless cameras are among the strengths of the industry at the moment, although point-and-shoot cameras are vulnerable to improvements made in smartphone cameras.
