Better diagnosis and awareness lower melanoma death rate

The survival rate for patients with melanoma has risen thanks to better patient and physician awareness as well as better diagnostic tools, says dermatologist Ashfaq A. Marghoob of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Total body photography, dermoscopy and confocal microscopy have improved the benign-to-malignant biopsy ratio, Marghoob said at the Hawaii Dermatology Seminar.
