Intel advances exascale computing platform with Cray deal

Intel announced it is bolstering its high-performance computing portfolio with the acquisition of intellectual property, networking technology and as many as 74 technicians from supercomputing pioneer Cray. The chipmaker said the deal -- which is valued at $140 million and follows a similar transaction with QLogic -- will help propel Intel's exascale computing initiative and enable the company to make supercomputing one hundred times faster by 2018.
