Magnet hospitals yield better outcomes for VLBW babies

Very low birth weight babies born at Magnet hospitals were less likely to get an infection, die at seven days or suffer severe intraventricular hemorrhage than those born at other hospitals, according to a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The findings show that Magnet status "may serve as a marker for an institution-wide commitment to optimizing outcomes," researchers wrote.
